Assessment in Mathematics

At North Fawdon, we use the Cornerstones system in maths to track the progress of each child through half-termly tests. From these tests, children are given opportunities to evaluate their learning, reflect on their progress and plan next steps.

Daily practice of key skills, intervention and booster work takes place to address any gaps and misconceptions, and respond to needs as they arise.

In Years 2 and 6, SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) papers are used to support assessment and track progress throughout the year. Children in these year groups will take a statutory SATs test in the Summer term, with a focus upon arithmetic and reasoning.

Daily formative assessments within lessons are ongoing - informing staff about a child’s needs and progress within maths, and helping to adapt teaching and plan future work
